COOPERATION BETWEEN UZBEKISTAN AND AZERBAIJAN WITHIN GUUAM

Abstract
The article traces the reasons and prerequisites of GUUAM's origin, peculiarities of its structure, goals and objectives. The main emphasis is given to the accession of Uzbekistan to this structure, relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan within GUUAM in the period from 1999 to 2005, before Uzbekistan's withdrawal from the organization.
It should be noted that despite the loss of relevance of this organization in the current coordinate of international relations of Uzbekistan, the experience of interaction between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in this pro-Western structure, both in a bilateral format and within the framework of GUUAM, seems very significant. In this regard, the main aspects of Uzbek-Azerbaijani cooperation of this period and its potential impact on both countries are examined. The author draws attention to the significance of common interests in energy, transportation and trade, as well as the advantages of the geographical location of both countries.
Of particular interest is the analysis of specific projects and initiatives implemented by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan within the GUUAM framework, covering the construction of transport corridors and highways, the creation of joint economic development zones and the promotion of mutual investments.
In general, this was a very valuable experience of cooperation, which today made it possible to raise bilateral relations between the countries to the level of strategic partnership and the creation of the Supreme Interstate Council.
