Abstract

Euphemisms play a fascinating role in language and human psychology. This article delves into the underlying reasons behind our reliance on euphemisms, particularly within the context of English language teaching. We explore the psychological functions of euphemisms, including social conformity, emotional regulation, and the management of taboo topics. Additionally, we examine the pedagogical implications of incorporating euphemisms into English language instruction, highlighting their value in fostering cultural awareness, critical thinking. By recognizing the psychological motivations and linguistic functions of euphemisms, English language teachers can harness their potential to enrich vocabulary, enhance communication skills, and promote a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between language and human psychology.
