The article deals with the complexity of the functional and stylistic description of the language of the mass media, describes the main features of mass information, as well as their differences in the concepts of functional and stylistic differentiation of language. There are compared the concept of "style" and "functional style", and highlited the features of functional style realized in the language of mass information, the factors that allow to define mass information language as a special kind of functional-stylistic unities.
