Communicative competence is a central concept in modern language education, focusing on the ability to use language appropriately and effectively in various social contexts. This paper provides a clear definition of communicative competence and outlines its development as an expanded view of language proficiency that goes beyond grammatical knowledge. The discussion highlights key components such as grammatical, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competence. It also emphasizes how these elements contribute to learners’ ability to engage in meaningful and accurate communication. The article suggests that real-life communication activities in the classroom play a crucial role in developing this competence.
